Why You Should Go on a Blind Date with a Book

How fun is it to get to know a new story as it unfolds in front of your eyes?

This can be said for two things in equal measure: people and books.

A first date with someone you're set up with can be both exciting and scary. You know nothing about each other, but the common link between you two is another person who thinks you may be a good match. They must think there is something worth exploring between the two of you, so you may as well give it a shot. It could be the best night of your life or a thanks-but-I'll-pass experience.

However, for  a blind date with a book, you're entrusting your reading wheelhouse to someone who knows books so well that they can pick out something you may not have chosen for yourself at your favorite book store. Maybe it's a charming romance you wouldn't have noticed, tucked behind a best-seller that's been crawling up the TBR lists of BookTok. It could also be a fun beach read of year's past that you might have glanced over in favor of something you were nose-deep in at the time.

Not only do you get to possibly step outside of your reading comfort zone just a little bit, but you could find your new favorite book along the way. Have you ever heard the phrase "trust the process"? It's so true in this case. It could be scary to receive a book you know nothing about, especially when it arrives wrapped with no indication of author or title. How can you know it's the right one for you? That's where the masterfully curated set-up gal comes in.

Hi, it's me. I'm the set-up gal. I'm Lindsay, owner of Lily Papers Library, and I'm so excited to get you set-up with a book I know you'll enjoy! Reading has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember. Sharing my favorite stories, talking about them, giving books as gifts, enjoying the sweet comfortable silence alongside loved ones as we read together, these are the things that bring me the most joy. Let's have some fun together!
